A Christmas vehicle creates smiles all round

Christmas lights, music and party-packs are what to expect when you see Norman Hunter driving about in Springs this festive season.

Married couple, Norman (44) and Trudie Hunter (46) have officially kicked off their festive season drive with their green Isuzu bakkie decorated with Christmas lights and tinsel.

Tinsel, lights, sweets and Christmas carols can be seen and heard when the couple do their rounds.

They travel in and around the Springs area, stopping where crowds are expected.

“The children go crazy when they see us coming,” says Trudie.

“We continue the legacy which was started by the late Thys Janse van Vuuren (43) who passed away last year,” she adds.

“Thys did the Santa drive during the festive season for about 20 years before he passed away,” Norman explains.

The festive drive on Thursday at 7pm and will continue up to December 24.

Party-packs are handed to the children when the bakkie stops at busy locations.

Quinton Labuschagne (21), a family friend, has been given the role of Santa and he “ho ho ho’s” his way through the night.

Santa has two little helpers assisting with creating smiles all round, Willie Roodt (12) and Martinus Labuschagne (11).

“We do it because it makes the children happy and their excitement brings us joy,” says Norman.
