Leaking water meter fixed

The leaking water meter reported by Selection Park resident, Colleen Huntly, was finally fixed on Thursday.

The leak, in Forrester Road, started with small spurts of water in October, which soon caused a big puddle of water around the meter.

On top of the water waste, Huntly also noticed her water account had doubled since the leak started.

“Our account was never higher than R270 per month for water usage, but suddenly in October it increased to R630,” she says.

According to her she also emailed the complaint through to the email provided on the Ekurhuleni Metro’s website but never received a reply.

She finally managed to get through to the call centre on November 17 and received a reference number.

“I have been phoning the call centre regularly to find out when the leak will be fixed and even offered to call a private plumber to come and fix it,” says Huntly.

She claims she was informed by the metro that it is metro property and it is their responsibility to fix the leak.

When she phoned the call centre last week, she was allegedly informed that there has been a backlog since May and the metro is battling with the contractors.

“Due to the increase on our water account, I phoned the metro’s accounts department to try and solve this problem,” she says.

However, she was allegedly told to make arrangements to pay off the excess amount.

“It is not my fault the meter is leaking,” she says.

She phoned the Addie on Friday to report that the metro finally fixed the leak on Thursday afternoon.
