Chamber’s view of 2015

Suzaan Finney, president of the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry, wishes all its members a festive Christmas.

She is also grateful to the members for their loyalty, support and contribution to the success of the EGCCI during 2015.

Finney gives a report on what the EGCCI achieved throughout the year.

The EGCCI concentrated on improving the cleanliness of the whole of Springs.

“We continued with our monthly meetings with Ace Phiri, the Customer Care Centre manager and the Ekurhuleni heads of departments,” says Finney.

The EGCCI‘s partnership with the metro has enabled the upliftment through timeous reporting with regard to maintenance of infrastructure such as with parks, roads, electricity and water.

The Business Linkage Centre (BLC), under the auspices of the EGCCI has concentrated on company registrations for SME’s which assisted the current members on their BBBEE certifications.

Finney says the BLC also facilitated the issuing of BBBEE affidavits for small businesses.

The EGCCI was instrumental in establishing the Business Watch office in 1987 with the cooperation of the Springs police.

During 2015 the CCTV camera cables were replaced and sponsored by a local company.

There are five cameras in various locations monitoring movement in the Springs CBD.

The Business Watch (BW) office opened on December 1 and two members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) will be monitoring the cameras.

Finney says Piet van Staden, the director of the EMPD, will be responsible for the staffing and control of the BW office.

The office telephone number is 011 812 1060.

She believes 2016 will be an exceptional year with the building of the new Springs Mall and the implementation of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) Gibela project in Dunnottar and the Inland Port project in Nigel.

‘These projects will provide many business opportunities and economic growth in our region,” says Finney.

The partnership between the EGCCI and the metro will assist in the growth of commercial and industrial members.
