Woman dies in three-vehicle crash

Three vehicles were involved in an accident in Ermelo Road, Strubenvale, which claimed the life of Natasha Koekemoer (41) yesterday afternoon.

According to eye witnesses, a Hyundai H100 was travelling along Ermelo Road at 2.15pm when the driver of a truck travelling in the next lane allegedly swerved in front of the Hyundai causing it to spin.

The vehicle then collided with two oncoming vehicles.

Eyewitnesses called the Springs police and ambulance services, and Koekemoer, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, was declared dead on the scene.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services personnel used the jaws of life to remove the driver, Koekemoer’s husband, who had sustained serious injuries, from the Hyundai.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The four passengers from the other two vehicles – a Nissan Hardbody and Toyota Hilux – sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The road was blocked off for more than three hours.
