Two-year-old drowns

A two-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at an address in Evans Road, Welgedacht, on Sunday.

Police allege this is the second drowning incident to take place at this address, with a five-year-old child drowning in the same pool on September 12, last year.

Sunday’s tragedy took place at about 4.30pm and claimed the life of Zityebi Mehlomakulu.

The little boy’s father, Musa Mehlomakulu, found his son in the pool after he went into the house to look for his car keys.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says Musa shouted for help and jumped into the pool to save Zityebi.

He adds that the father took his son out of the pool, but the child wasn’t breathing.

Musa phoned police and an ambulance, and paramedics declared Zityebi dead at the scene.

An inquest docket has been opened.
