New meter installation blamed for water leak

Kenny Moonsamy (54) reported a water leak to the Ekurhuleni Metro on August 3 and is still waiting for the metro to fix the leak.

He lives along McCullough Street, Strubenvale, and claims the problems started when the old meters were removed in 2014 and replaced with new plastic ones.

The hole where the old meter was removed was never closed by the metro and the clean water is coming from this hole.

Moonsamy wanted to investigate to see from where the water is coming, but after his dog got stuck in the wet sand he decided to leave the job for the metro workers.

He believes a lot of clean drinking water is going to waste, but gets the impression the metro doesn’t really care about the water going to waste.

Moonsamy believes the metro never sealed off a pipe after removing the old meter.

“We cannot use the front of our garden as it is under water,” he says.

“We have reported the state of the old water pipes in the past, but clean water going to waste needs serious attention.”

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, says the metro’s operation team went to inspect the leak.

Moonsamy reported metro technicians finally fixed the leak on Saturday.
