Endicott residents concerned about lack of service delivery

Residents are forced to dump refuse at the community centre.

Residents of Endicott are experiencing drastic problems with service delivery in the area.

According to resident Benjamin Michel, the municipality has not collected refuse for more than two months.

“The residents have been forced to dump their refuse at the community centre,” he says.

He adds that the refuse is starting to stink and vagrants rummage through the bags, scattering the garbage.

“I believe the clinic in the community centre is also discarding their used needles and medical waste in this heap.”

The area has also been experiencing water supply problems since Wednesday.

“The water pressure was too high and burst some of my neighbour’s water pipes, and for the entire afternoon we had no water at all.

“When it returned in the evening, the water pressure was very high again.”

Michel explains he was driving around and noticed many people in their gardens trying to repair burst pipes.

“Who will pay for this damage caused by the municipality’s negligence?” he asks.

Michel states that this is not the first time the area has experienced problems with water pipes.

“My water pipes burst underground and the water leaked without any hint of a problem on the surface.

“As the municipal invoices are often delayed, it wasn’t noticed until two months later when I received a bill for over R12 000,” says an outraged Michel.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metro, says Endicott falls under the Lesedi Municipality.

The Addie is awaiting comment from the municipality.
