Police shut down unlicensed casino, seize drugs

An unlicensed casino in Selcourt, from where it is suspected drugs were also being sold, was shut down by Springs police on Saturday.

Police raided the address of the establishment along Nigel Road at about 6pm.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says when police arrived, they found a man packing cold drink in fridge.

Upon searching the fridge, police found 17 packets of dagga and cash wrapped in a plastic bag, hidden in the freezer compartment.

Sachets and straws of Cat were found in the toilet.

The street value of the drugs are approximately R680.

Ramphora says the 23-year-old man was arrested and police seized the keys to the property.

The man was taken to the Springs Police Station.

The man appeared in die Springs Regional Court on Monday and was released on R500 bail.

His next court appearance will be on October 22.
