Edelweiss dagga grower bust by police

A married couple was arrested by Springs police for cultivating dagga and obstructing the course of justice on Tuesday.

The Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit followed-up on information received from the community and visited an address along Butler Road, Edelweiss, at 10am.

When police arrived at the house, they found a 23-year-old woman and her three-year-old son outside the house.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the officers asked the woman if her husband was home.

She informed them he was not.

When the officers phoned the 32-year-old man on his cellphone, however, he answered from inside the house.

Ramphora says police searched the house and found 10 containers of dagga inside a refrigerator , two dagga trees planted in pots as well as two globes and a fan used for cultivating dagga.

The man was arrested for cultivating dagga and his wife was charged for obstructing the course of justice.

Their toddler was removed from the scene by social workers from the Department of Social Development.
