No bail for 69-year-old rape suspect

A 69-year-old Springs man briefly appeared in the Springs Regional Court on Thursday.

He is charged with two counts of rape and seven of sexual assault.

Bail was denied and the case was postponed to October 29.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says the man was arrested and first appeared in court last Tuesday (September 8).

His bail application hearing continued today (September 16).

It is believed he sexually assaulted a 52-year-old woman at his workplace.

The woman opened a case of sexual assault at the Springs Police Station.

Greybe says since the case was opened, six more women, aged between 30 and 40 years old, claim the suspect allegedly raped and sexually assaulted them.

The man will remain at Modderbee Prison until his next court appearance.
