‘Charlie Charlie’ – a trending new game

"Charlie Charlie" is a new game fast gaining popularity with children around the globe.

It is a pencil and paper game which is reportedly played by school children around the globe.

Players ask questions which are supposedly answered by Charlie, which is believed by some to be a demonic spirit.

The game involves balancing two crossed pencils over the words “yes” and “no” on a piece of paper.

Charlie answers by moving the pencils to the answers on the paper.

It is believed the consequences are dire if the game is not completed or if the players don’t say goodbye to Charlie.

With internet replacing most of the legendary outdoor and in-house games played many years ago, it is not known if local children partake in such games.

According to several website sources, however, children are still experimenting with these kinds of games.

The Addie contacted several local schools to ask whether learners are playing the game during school breaks.

Most of the schools contacted were unaware of learners playing this game but staff had heard of the game and know what to look out for.

The Addie asked readers on our Facebook page if they thought the game was suitable for children.

Trudy Ellie Daws: “In Cape Town, it has brought a lot of serious issues amongst young school children so it is banned in schools. Pupils will be expelled according to the news. So please do not let your children get involved in this demonic game.”

Alta Janse van Rensburg: “It is absolutely ridiculous. Cannot think that primary school children will play such games.”

Chantel Oosthuizen: “I heard and know of it and it’s one of the most serious games I know of. This makes your child act in such a way it scares the living daylight out of you. Best is to educate our children and let them know that this is bad and to stay away! It’s not cool.
