The SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members were doing stop and search patrols at the time.
Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says they searched the 28-year-old man and found nine packets of nyaope and 70 packets of dagga in his possession.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Springs police cells.
He will appear in court soon.
