Duck pond is thriving

A new borehole pump was recently installed at the George Sutter Park duck pond.

It is the third pump to be installed since the new borehole was drilled in November.

“What a pleasant experience to see the water pumping from the soil when the new pump is switched on,” says Gert Parsons, chairman of the Selpark Dam Committee.

He claims it is not only to the great delight of those who helped, but the ducks and geese immediately came closer to enjoy the fresh water.

The 7.5kw capacity of the first pump was apparently too big for the amount of water produced from the hole.

A renovated pump was installed in April.

Gert says they were informed about the pump being broken again during a committee meeting held in July.

They decided to replace it with a new one.

Springs AfriForum and businesses contributed towards the new pump.

Gert says they are grateful to Goosey Fernandes and Frikkie Beirowski for their assistance in replacing the pump free of charge.

“We would like to thank Selection Park residents Kathy and Henry Preston who always keep a watchful eye on the dam, and the ducks and geese,” adds Gert.

He says it is heartwarming to see the ducks and geese have babies, and that a large number of wild birds have again settled in the park.

“We are grateful to every single person who contributed to restoring the dam to its full capacity,” he adds.
