Water goes to waste in Daggafontein

"Reports are doing the rounds of a looming water shortage, yet Ekurhuleni has not bothered to fix a water leak for more than a year."

Andries Fourie (31) from Daggafontein Extension One says he has tried reporting a water leak on his property since around March, last year.

“I have a collection of reference numbers but nothing has ever been done and it’s turning our driveway into a muddy mess,” he says.

The grass around the water leak cannot be walked on as it sinks in as a result of the constant water.

“I can’t even begin to imagine how much water has been wasted this past year from this water leak, there are people who don’t even have water and they can’t be bothered,” says Fourie.

According to him, his neighbours have also reported the matter multiple times.

“You can only do so much before you become fed up,” he says.

Fourie adds they are loyal taxpayers and doesn’t understand why the taxpayers do their part and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality does nothing.

“If you think about it, they’re actually robbing us because we are paying for services we are not getting.”
