Bakerton father assaulted with crowbar

A Bakerton man was assaulted with a crowbar while in bed with his wife on Sunday.

The couple was asleep in their Lavender Street home at 3am, when they were awakened by two men in their bedroom.

The robbers ordered them to “keep quiet”.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says one of the robbers was armed with a crowbar.

He assaulted the man and tied him up with shoelaces.

The other robber searched the house and returned to the bedroom with the couple’s daughter (age unknown).

With the family in one room, the robbers took jewellery, clothes, a DVD player and then left the house.

No one was injured and it is not known how the robbers gained entry to the house.
