Residents protest Dersley sewage ‘dam’

Residents have had enough with sewage problems in Dersley.

Members of the Dersley Community Association (DCA) and residents gathered on Monday to protest about the major sewage leak in the open field between Dersley and Eastvale, near Cloverfield Road.

Maré Buchner, a member of the DCA, says they can’t take the stench of the sewage any longer and want something to be done.

Ward councillor of the area, Ramesh Sheodin, was also present and says he knows the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has attended to the leak before, but the problem persists.

He claims it is the illegal miners across the road that are blocking the pipes for their mining operations.

The sewage was streaming from the field onto Cloverfield Road on Monday, but residents say the ‘dam’ has been there for weeks.

Residents claim to have reported the situation to council multiple times, but state nothing has been done.

Sheodin says he reported the matter at the monthly council meeting last Thursday.

The Addie is awaiting comment from the metro.
