Shack set alight after tavern fight

An argument that started in a tavern left a Daggafontein man homeless.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says 29-year-old man lost his home and all of his belongings when his shack was set alight by an angry group of men.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 1.30am.

Ramphora says it is alleged the victim tried to end a fight at a tavern between his friend and one of the suspects.

He explains the victim was allegedly stabbed during the fight and he ran to his shack as the mob chased him.

The group set his shack alight and the victim managed to escape the flames unharmed.

The police are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

No arrests have been made.
