Springs SPCA saves the lives of animals

A shelter for the lost and abandoned, the Springs SPCA takes care of various animals on a daily basis.

Every animal, no matter how big or how small, is treated with care and compassion.

The SPCA’s vision is to end all cruelty to animals.

Springs SPCA is currently home to a large number of abandoned animals and regularly welcomes new arrivals.

Not all the animals at the organisation are abandoned.

Some of them are there because their owners cannot afford to care for them anymore.

Whatever the case may be, the SPCA welcomes all animals with open arms.

Debbie Miller from the Springs SPCA says they have three amazing men who wash and scrub the kennels and cattery on a daily basis.

They also feed and blanket all the animals and assist with loading and off-loading.

“Our inspectors do pre-home checks before an adoption and post-home checks after an adoption, to make sure the animal will be in a safe and loving home,” she says.

The staff at the Springs SPCA deal with cruelty complaints, stray animals, sick and injured animals which need to get to a vet, collecting dog food and preparing food for kittens and puppies.

Outreach to the rural areas is done twice a week.

Inspection is done of any and all security companies which use either dogs or horses.

Pet shops, grooming parlours, circuses, abattoirs and any other businesses which have animals are also regularly inspected by the SPCA.

“We make sure that all animals are being given the best treatment, therefore striving to stop animal abuse,” Debbie concludes.

The Springs SPCA are struggling to deal with the large number of animals which they need to care for on a daily basis.

They are short of cat and dog food and need all the help they can receive.

The Springs SPCA are one of the organisations being supported by Christmas in July this weekend.
