New MMA dojo opens its doors

A new mixed martial arts and fitness club, Alien MMA and Fitness, opened it doors in the Tenchikan Dojo School of Martial Arts on Saturday (July 11).

The club, affiliated to Mixed Martial Arts South Africa and Martial Arts South Africa, is situated in Clydesdale Road, Casseldale.

It offers a variety of mixed martial arts and body conditioning methods including karate, kickboxing, Kung-fu, Kenpo (a Japanese method of unarmed combat), Capoeria (Brazilian martial art) and several other Japanese and Brazilian jiu jitsu techniques.

Yoga and ballet stretching techniques, to increase suppleness, is also offered.

To develop better muscle and body control, the club offers calisthenetics and Alien-jitsu, a combination of advanced Japanese and Brazillian jiu jitsu basics, which is combined with ASBO submission techniques.

ASBO is Aiki-Sam-bo, a combination of Yoshinkan Aiki-do and Sam-bo, created by Kancho Kenji Nakazawa, who visited SA from Japan, last year

The club’s committee comprises head instructor and fifth dan, shihan Terence Teriane, who has over 35 years experience in martial arts and 20 years teaching experience.

He is an international Aiko-do champion and a South-African Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Federation fighter.

His assistant is chief instructor shihan Otto Pretorius (fifth dan Aiki-jitsu SA), who also has over 35 years martial arts experience and 20 years teaching experience.

Sensei Suzette Teraine is the club’s secretary and is currently the first and highest-ranking female Aiko-Sam-bo instructor in SA.

Another committee member is Jean Humpries, who has three years martial arts experience.

Practice takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6pm and 8pm.
