Bullets fly in Slovo Park shoot-out

Springs police arrested a 26-year-old man at 4am this morning (June 24) after a shoot-out in Slovo Park.

The man was charged with attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

During a routine patrol in the area, police noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle with four occupants.

When they tried to stop the the grey Ford Bantam bakkie to search it, the occupants opened fire.

Police returned fire and both vehicles were damaged by flying bullets.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says three of the men ran away and managed to evade capture.

One was arrested and was found in possession of an unlicensed shotgun and one round of ammunition.

He will appear in court soon.
