UPDATE: Case opened after teen is hit by car

The Addie visited Fiona LeCorre (17) in the Far East Rand Hospital this morning and found her asleep.

Nursing staff reported she is still unresponsive, but had a restless night.

When her mother Miena van Zyl visited her last night, Fiona opened her eyes for a short while and reached for Miena’s hand.

“It was wonderful to see her eyes open, even though it was for a brief moment,” says Miena.

Fiona was hit by a car on Wednesday in Fourth Avenue, Geduld, when crossing the road to Miena’s place of employment.

She sustained serious head injuries.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says a case of reckless and neglegent driving was opened at the Springs Police Station.
