DR WK du Plessis learner is in a stable condition after accident

Fiona LeCorre (17) was hit by a car as she crossed Fourth Avenue in Geduld on Wednesday (June 17).

Fiona’s mother Miena van Zyl says her daughter is not in a coma, but is unresponsive.

Fiona is a Grade 10 learner at Dr WK du Plessis School.

Miena is devastated by what happened to her daughter and the uncertainty of the future.

“I need answers, but don’t know where to begin looking,” she says.

When she saw her child lying in the road she went into a state of panic.

Nirvana Ambulance Services paramedic Anria Ferreira says they arrived at the scene at 2.50pm.

She says the teenager sustained serious head injuries, a cut to the head and her right eye was swollen and bruised.

EMPD officials Louis Else and Louwtjie du Toit say the driver of a white Toyota bakkie claims Fiona passed a stationary truck and walked into oncoming traffic.

Netcare 911 paramedics assisted the other paramedics with inserting a drip, before Fiona was transported to the Far East Rand Hospital (FERH).

Fiona was transported to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg at 1pm today (June 18), for a CT scan and was accompanied by her mother

She was transported back to FERH after the scan.

FERH spokesman Hendrik Buda says she is in a stable condition, but is unresponsive.
