SAPS recover rifle used in robbery

A man was arrested by the Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit in Gugulethu on Friday (June 12) for attempted murder.

He was arrested after police received information about a shooting in Kgotso Street at 8.30am.

The victim was shot in his right arm while talking to friends in his shack.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the man allegedly heard someone outside and his generator suddenly stopped working.

He allegedly heard a gunshot and started screaming when another shot was fired.

Ramphora claims it was only then that the victim’s friends realised he had been shot in the arm.

When they went outside to investigate they found the generator was gone.

The suspect was arrested in Sisulu Street and the generator was recovered.

Police seized an unlicenced rifle used during the robbery.

The suspect was charged with attempted murder and possession of an unlicenced firearm.

He was taken to the Springs police cells and will appear in court soon.
