Officer shot at police station

Dunnottar policeman in a serious but stable condition.

Police have launched a manhunt for two armed men who shot and wounded a 47-year-old warrant officer at the Dunnottar Police Station Client Service Centre (charge office) late last night (June 8).

The officer was shot several times in the upper body before the men fled the scene.

A statement received from SAPS provincial spokesman Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini, says: “The victim was taken to the Union Hospital in Alberton in a serious but stable condition.”

The officer’s colleague, a constable, was not hurt.

It is alleged the two men walked into the client service centre and opened fire on the warrant officer and constable.

Dlamini says a shoot-out took place between them and the shooters fled the scene on foot.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after the incident.

They stabilised the officer and immediately took him to the Union Hospital for further treatment.

Dlamini says police will work around the clock to find these senseless criminals who targeted police officers at the police station.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of these men to contact the nearest police station or contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

They are considered armed and dangerous and members of the public are warned not to confront them, but rather contact police.
