Golfers tee off for CANSA

Local golfers participated in the club competition of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge at the Springs Country Club on Saturday.

This challenge is aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and more than 100 golfers took part in this nationwide club competition.

Saturday’s club competition, which marked the tournament’s 23rd anniversary, will be followed by regional competitions, in which 100 golfers will qualify for the Sanlam Cancer Challenge final at Sun City later this year.

Local men and women played in different categories according to their handicaps.

The results are as follow:

The men’s A Division winner was Jose Carrazon with 40 points and runner- up was Surprise Seila with 38 points.

Koos Erasmus was third with 37 points.

The B Division winner was Edward Wilson with 40 points and Johnny Hewit was runner-up with 38 points.

The winner in the C Division was Thys Fouche with 37 points and Ben Jordaan was runner-up with 37 points.

Gawie Greeff shot nearest to the pin at hole eight.

The women did exceptionally well, and Tersia Beck was the winner in A Division with 36 points.

Ilana Prinsloo was the runner-up with 33 points, and also took nearest to the pin at hole eight.

It was a well deserved win for the B Division winner Marika Visser with 36 points.

Merlene Nel was the runner-up with 28 points, and Liezl de Wet in third place with 27 pionts.

The C Division winner was Bertie Lotze with 35 points and Rentia de Wet was runner-up with 27 points.

A bottle of wine from the Ernie Els Wine collection was won by Christ Nortje.

The winners of the various divisions will play in the regionals in August.
