Raising funds for charity

Women gathered for a good cause at the Riverside Lodge on the banks of the Blesbokspruit in Ermelo Road on Saturday.

The ‘Craft for a Cause’ fundraising event saw women put their creative skills to work and craft something to raise funds.

Jill Edgar and Kay Grimwood from Springs organised the event on behalf of charity organisation, Starfish Greathearts Foundation.

The organisation brings life, hope and opportunity to over 11 000 children left orphaned or vulnerable in South Africa by working in partnership with community-based organisations

This is achieved through two key programmes, The Starfish Wellness Programme which focuses on the health and well-being of children, and the Capacity Development Programme which aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of organisations to better manage health, education and child protection services.

Lorin Edgar from Starfish says they managed to raise approximately R3 500 for the charity.

“The contributions made to Starfish directly benefit at least 95% of black South Africans, and with your support we continue to distribute over 80% of funds to the communities we support,” she concludes.
