Sanral welcomes new e-toll dispensation
Sanral is pleased with the new e-toll arrangements.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new e-toll dispensation last Wednesday as affirmation that the user-pay principle will be retained as the major funding method for the Gauteng e-toll system.
“We welcome the decision made and hope that the matter is now laid to rest so that we can focus all our energies on executing our mandate to the benefit of all South Africans,” says Nazir Alli, CEO of the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) in welcoming the new dispensation regarding the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).
Alli stressed that retaining the user-pay principle ensures equity and efficiency in the allocation of resources and allows for future phases of the project to go ahead, certainty for investors and for new infrastructure to be financed and constructed timeously, sustaining the job creation growth.
Implementation time frames will be announced by Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters as changes to the system must be gazetted.
“Sanral would like to thank Deputy President Ramaphosa for the political leadership and guidance he provided to resolve this matter,” Alli says.
