UPDATE: Springs detectives up for murder

Two Springs detectives and two informers are currently awaiting their bail application in a murder and attempted murder case.

The four are currently being detailed until their formal bail hearing on May 19.

The first officer and two informers appeared in the Carletonville Magistrate’s Court last Thursday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The three men were arrested last Tuesday following a thorough investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and the SAPS.

Both detectives, as well as three informers, stand accused of allegedly torturing a man to death, and shooting and killing two others, in Carltonville on April 17.

The second detective was arrested in Emalahleni (Witbank) on Friday.

He briefly appeared in the Carltonville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, when the case was postponed to May 19 for a formal application.

Both detectives, who hold the rank of constable, serve at the Springs Police Detective Services.

A statement received from the Provincial spokesman Brig Mashadi Selepe, states that the men were arrested following an intensive crime intelligence driven investigation.

IPID spokesman Moses Dlamini says all four men are being held in custody but wasn’t prepare to divulge the details of where they are being held when the Addie spokes to him no Tuesday.
