BREAKING NEWS: Two Springs detectives involved in murder case

Springs detective up for murder.

A Springs police detective and two informers will appear in the Carltonville Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The detective and a colleague, as well as three informers are alleged to have tortured a man to death, and shot and killed two others, in Carltonville on April 17.

The second detective and the third informer are yet to be arrested.
Both detectives, who hold the rank of constable, serve at the Springs Police Detective Services.

The men were arrested on Tuesday after a thorough investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and the SAPS.
In a statement received from the Provincial SAPS spokesman Brig Mashadi Selepe, it is stated that the men were arrested following an intensive crime intelligence-driven investigation.

These police investigations revealed that on April 17, two Springs constables accompanied by three informers, went to Carltonville in search of four suspects in a murder case they were investigating.

It has been alleged that the two constables found one of the four suspects and that, during the course of their interrogation, they tortured the suspect to the point where he lost consciousness.

They allegedly transported the unconscious man to Pholosong Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
Selepe says the two constables then allegedly left the hospital with the corpse and continued tracking the other three suspects, whom they found, arrested, and transported to a field in Carltonville.

There, in the presence of the informers, they allegedly shot all three of the suspects who they had just arrested and left them for dead in the field along with the corpse of the first suspect.

“One of the three, however, had in fact not died from the bullet wounds he sustained, and he crawled to a nearby road where he was assisted and taken to hospital,” says Selepe.

The other detective is still at large and is being sought by the SAPS to ensure that he is taken into custody and charged.

Cases of murder and attempted murder are currently still under investigation.

Comment has been requested from Springs police.
