Exciting Super 16 golf

Five more games to play before the winners of the two groups battle it out.

The second round of the Springs Country Club’s Super 16 tournament was played on Saturday.

Between 7am and 9am, 96 players teed off from the starting point.

Team Highlanders won the competition with 92 points.

The best individual player was Connie Wiid with 43 points.

Golf captain of the Springs Country Club, Bennie de Lange, says the competition started in 2009.

The idea was to get players from other clubs involved and to raise funds for the club.

Bennie explains eight Group A teams play against each Group B team.

The games are played over seven months and the top teams in the two groups then play in the semi-final.

The two group winners then compete in the finals.

Each team consists of six players, three groups of two players.

The group results are as follows:

Willie du Randt and Dewis van Deventer won with 48 points, with Connie Wiid and W Hunter with 47 points.

Gawie Greef won Nearest the Pin at hole eight and Shirley van Wyk at hole 12.

On the same day, a Betterball Stableford competition was played.

Dewies van Deventer and Willie du Randt won the competition with 48 points.

Bennie de Lange and Jose Carrazon came in second place with a score of 45 points.

Presidents Golf Day will be played on Saturday with Tee-off time at 10am.

The club’s first scratch league will be played on Sunday at the Benoni Lake Golf Club.
