Sheodin takes sewage leak to council

The issue of a perpetual sewage leak in the open space next to Cloverfield Road will be brought to the attention of Ekurhuleni at this month's metro council meeting.

Ramesh Sheodin, ward councillor of Dersley, says he is planning to hand in a motion about the leak at today’s (Thursday) metro council meeting, to be held in Germiston.

In the motion he asks that the metro finds the cause of the sewage overflow and repairs it as soon as possible.

He says this sewage leak has been a problem for many years, causing a perpetual sewage odour in the area between Dersley and Eastvale.

He asks in the motion that the metro spend the R3 500 000 for the outfall sewer station for Modder East that was budgeted in the 2014/2015 financial year and so redirect some of the sewage to better the situation.

Sheodin says the residents are concerned about their health and that of their children and feel that the metro is not taking adequate steps to address the issue.

The sewage line, which appears to be a main line, gets blocked with sewage flowing into the veld and the ditch next to the road.

The metro fixes it, but the pipe breaks repetitively.

Sheodin is concerned about the situation, because hundreds of houses are planned to be built in the Eastvale area.

He explains a motion to council will be investigated by the metro officials.
