Telkom workers preTelkom to strike

A Telkom worker alleged that the company is going to outsource all call centres.

Workers of Telkom were picketing at The Avenues today (Friday), preparing to strike against Telkom’s decision to outsource call centres.

Thabo Ntlebi (33) says 2 000 workers are allegedly going to lose their jobs.

“They are closing 186 Telkom Direct shops and this is not only affecting the workers, but also the community who are clients and who won’t be able to get service in their area,” says Ntlebi, one of the workers for Telkom.

It is alleged by Ntlebi that this decision is as a result of cost saving.

“But they are not coming clear of what the exact reason is,” he says.

“The previous financial year they proclaimed profit, so how is it that they are now making decisions for cost saving?”

The workers will be gathering at The Avenues again on Monday in hopes that the national union will be there.

More to follow, including Telkom comment, as informationbecomes available.
