The Addie published an article (Springs Advertiser, March 5) regarding the accident that occurred in Nigel Road.
Residents raised concerns about the water leak that caused the accident and said they wanted answers.
Themba Gadebe, spokesman for Ekurhuleni, says the metro received the complaint on February 27 and officials attended to the leak on the same day.
Due to the rain, operations had to be halted on that day.
When workers returned to site the following day they discovered that it was an illegal connection, which was then reported to the metro’s revenue department.
Investigations were conducted and it was established that there is an illegal connection of the pipe to the mainline and it bypasses the meter which resulted into a water leak.
The repair work was completed on March 6.
