Vita Nova is running dry

Their financial situation is becoming critical, and they may have to close down if no money comes in.

Vita Nova will have to close their doors if financial help does not arrive soon.

Michelle Immelman, director of Vita Nova says after they receive their government grant the home needs R300 000 each month to meet their needs

She says businesses that used to donate to Vita Nova are going through difficult times, caused by factors such as the recent labour strikes, and are not always in a position to make donations.

They did get a R500 000 donation in October and the recent R60 000 from Auto Alpina Springs that have kept the home afloat until now.

Michelle says the situation is becoming critical, and they may have to close down if no money comes in.

Vita Nova is home to children and adults, from three years old, who are suffer from cerebral palsy, are mentally and physically challenged, down syndrome children, those with autism and children suffering from Aids.

Most of the 108 full-time residents have no place to go and most of those who have parents, cannot live at their parents’ homes.

Two such residents are Tshepo Madlala (22) and Thembi Ngubane (15) who have home to go to should the home close down.

Tshepo is blind and Thembi is severely disabled and both need the 24-hour care Vita Nova provides for them.

Michelle says not only the Vita Nova residents’ future is in jeopardy if the home closes.

The home has a personnel compliment of 75, already 21 short of the number of people needed to provide 24-hour care to the residents, who stand a chance of losing their jobs.
