Madiba vows to come back even stronger

Springsite Tumisang Madiba took to the EFC hexagon at Carnival City on Saturday night in a fight which ended with the decision going to the judges.

In his featherweight mixed martial arts fight with Matthew Buirski at EFC 37, Madiba managed to go the distance, lasting all three rounds but ultimately the decision went in Buirski’s favour.

Speaking to the Addie after the fight, Madiba said “I came in very confident. I had trained and prepared very hard and had a winning game plan but on the night the fight proved to be very tough.

“Things simply didn’t go my way and went to a decision.

“I was aiming to finish – I always aim to finish – but anything that goes to the judges you just have to accept what they decide.”

He describes the fight as a back and forth tussle that went three rounds, “most with him (Buirski) having top control and holding me down.

“I would have liked to stand and trade with him but he succeeded in taking me down and keeping me there.”

He admits to a lacklustre performance on his part but says it is now time to go back to the drawing board to reconstruct in a bid to come back stronger.

He thanks his manager XKT Pro’s James Read, trainer Jurgen Putter, and his team at Rio Grappling for helping him get ready for the fight.

In as aside he mentioned that Rio Grappling will be moving to the Hoërskool Hugenoot sports grounds on March 7.

The launch of the new facility will be celebrated with a grappling competition “so people can come and roll with us”.
