Sassa pin needed for verificaton

Pin number is needed to verify beneficiaries.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) advises grant recipients to obtain a Personal Identification Number (pin).

The use of the pin is to verify cardholders at contracted retail stores.

Recipients below the age of 60, excluding disabled grant recipients, should visit their nearest Sassa office to obtain their pin number.

Spokesman for Sassa, Steve Mabona says those using fingerprints when drawing their social grants from contracted retail stores will now be required to obtain a pin.

The pin will be used to utilise contracted retail stores as a collection method.

He says recipients will be able to select a pin at a chosen contracted retail store the next time the grant is collected.

If recipients choose not to select a pin, they will not be able to draw their grant, but will be able to transact at Sassa pay point and at biometrically enabled ATMs.

Steve says all new cardholders must ensure that they select a pin with their new Sassa card.

He advises recipients to keep their pin number to themselves and not to disclose it to anybody.
