There seems to be a lack of communication between metro departments regarding the fence at the George Sutter Park duck pond.

A few people met at the George Sutter Park duck pond on Monday to discuss the new clear view fence to be erected.

Metro parks department manager Lindiwe Makubalo confirmed the meeting between her, Springs residents Wollastan Labuschagne and Goosey Fernandes and the contractor.

She says no date was received from the contractor on when he will start erecting the fence but she wants the project to be implemented as soon as possible.

However, in the comment received the from the metro spokesman Themba Gadebe he states “there is no budget allocated during this financial year to erect a fence around the pond.”

He says funds were sourced from Nigel Game Reserve coffers to erect an interim structure for the safety of the animals.

According to his comments a request for an amount of R389 000 was submitted for the next financial year.

A fence was erected recently, but the contractor was instructed by Makubalo to remove it immediately as it is not the commitment the council made to the partners in terms of the type of fence to be erected.

She believes the fence will be erected soon and once the contractor starts she will advise the Addie accordingly.
