‘Water shedding’ annoy residents of Dal Fouché

"Slowly but surely implementing 'water shedding'."

These are the words of a very disgruntled resident from Dal Fouché, Jacques Botha, due to continuous water shortage in the area.

“This has been happening since early last year and has been happening on an ongoing basis,” he says.

Botha says that for the last couple of months they have been experiencing this problem on a weekly basis and sometimes more than once a week.

He adds that January was a serious problem as they were without water a few times and when they did have water, the pressure was extremely low.

“It happens almost three times a day,” he says, “in the morning, afternoons and in the evening.”

Botha says he contacted Ekurhuleni on multiple occasions, but they never respond to his complaints.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for Ekurhuleni, says the municipality is aware of the water supply problem in the Dal Fouché area.

“The main issue is that we currently do not have the telemetry system to level control the pumping to the Dal Fouché tower,” says Gadebe.

He adds that they are using a timer in the interim which creates a problem because the timer does not sense the level of the tower and these need to be replaced by level controls.

“We are currently in the process of going to tender through East Rand Water Care (ERWAT) to install the level controls.

This process is estimated to be completed in a period of two months.
