SAPS commemmorate fallen members

National Police Day is celebrated in memory of fallen comrades.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) celebrated its 10th anniversary today.

Springs police station commander Brigadier Tembheka Gwebushe says the celebration held at the police station is to give recognition to police officers for their sacrifice and commitment to upholding safety and security for the country.

During the wreath laying ceremony Amanda Greybe read the following:

“We remember our officers who changed our lives.

The men and women who protected us day and night.

People who were  respected for the dedication to the cause.

For when faced with danger they never even paused.

Whatever the colour of uniform, brown, grey or blue,

With pride and integrity they stood to serve and protect.

For the giving of their lives we offer our respect.

We remember our officers who we never really knew.

Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few.

With heavy hearts we mourn our officers in eternal rest.

In honour and remembrance we, your brother s and sisters in the force, salute you.”

Spokesman for the Springs police Captain Johannes Ramphora says it is a big day in the lives of policemen and women.

“We are here to honour those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“The ceremony was short but yet done in style,” he says.
