SA Post Office trying to solve problems

The South African Post Office (Sapo) is yet to announce the after effect of the postal strike.

Some residents still haven’t received the majority of their mail, including international magazines and other post.

Hans Dewald feels he is fortunate to receive a mail item once a week, however this occurred daily before the postal strike in Petersfield Extension.

The mail service has been affected by the postal strike which started in August last year and ended on 25 November.

The sorting depot in Springs is currently working on Saturdays and Sundays to clear the backlog.

According to the person delivering the mail in the Petersfield area the postal depot are short-staffed and struggle to sort and deliver mail. They have to cover different areas of Springs each day.

This statement was confirmed by Sapo spokesman Malusi Fuphe.

“There is a staff shortage at the Springs depot and the Sapo is looking at ways to address the problem by working over weekends.”

Delivery man Dewald claims that they cannot employ any additional staff to regularise the situation.

When he visited the depot in Fourth street there was still a major build-up of post to be delivered.

Fuphe says the Springs area will be prioritised.
