Safe is not used for babies

People use it to 'donate' baby clothes.

People are using the drop safe at Hope iThema Crisis Pregnancy Centre to drop clothes instead of babies.

Pat Kemp of the centre had to abandon all her responsibilities on Tuesday afternoon to attend to the safe, situated at their offices in Eighth Street, only to find clothes.

The same happened on December 27.

She says the safe has an alarm which sends her a telephone call and an SMS, alerting her that something was dropped in the safe.

The safe then locks from the inside and can only be accessed from their offices.

“I cannot ignore the call, because it could be a baby who was dropped there and needs my help,” says Kemp.

Although the centre appreciates the baby clothes, Kemp appeals to those who want to donate something not to use the safe to drop it, but to hand it in at the centre’s offices.
