Springs sportsman goes places

Casper "Cassie" Moodie (26), born and raised a Springsite, went to Canada from August 26 until September 1 for the Triathlon World Championship.

Casper placed 14th out of 78 athletes from 73 different countries.

He raced the standard distance consisting of 1.5km swimming, 40km cycling and 10km running in the age group of 25 to 29 years.

He trains seven days a week and three times a day to get to where he currently is.

“I also had to lose 35kg,” he laughingly added.

Casper mostly trains at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria under the guidance of Lindsey Parry.

He started triathlon racing four years ago when he was challenged by a friend.

It was then that he realised that he really enjoyed the sport and wanted to continue on a permanent basis, which he did.

Casper was born, raised and went to school in Springs and lived here for 25 years before moving to Benoni where he currently resides.

Three weeks before leaving for Canada, Casper went to France where he partook in the professional category in the 51-50 Marseille Triathlon and placed 12th out of 19 of some of the world’s best professional athletes.

He is also attending a tri-camp in Namibia on October 26 and the 51-50 African Championship in Germiston on November 2.
