The Proteas will need to eliminate minor errors in their game if they hope to beat England this week, says national captain Maryka Holtzhausen.

South Africa face England and Trinidad and Tobago in a Tri-Nations netball series starting in Port Elizabeth today, and Holtzhausen believes her side can bounce back from a 3-0 series defeat in England last month.

“We came so close a few weeks back. We didn’t lose because they were better, we lost because of little mistakes we made,” she said yesterday.¬†“I think we have cut out those mistakes, which is what we’ve been working on, and we definitely believe we can beat England.”

The tourists have made a few changes, but Holtzhausen is confident the Proteas know enough about the visitors to beat them.¬†“We really learned a lot when we went there a few weeks ago, and we have worked on the things we needed to improve,” she said.

“They have a different squad, with a few players we don’t know, but their style should be the same and we’re ready for the challenge.”¬†England are ranked third in the world, South Africa are sixth and Trinidad & Tobago are eighth, but Holtzhausen insisted they would not take the Caribbean team lightly.

“We’ll approach them with the same mindset as England.”

After the Tri-Nations, which ends on Friday, the Proteas will have a one-day break before they host Zambia and Zimbabwe in the Diamond Challenge starting in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
