The SA team will return home with one silver medal after downhill ace Greg Minnaar ended the national squad’s campaign in style at the Mountainbike World Championships in Vallnord, Andorra on Sunday.

Minnaar, a three-time world champion, earned his 10th medal at the annual showpiece. He took the lead after his run but was bumped off the top spot on the podium by Frenchman Loic Bruni, who was 2.36 seconds faster than the experienced South African.

The 33-year-old rider, the only South African to have won a world championships medal in the last five years, was the only SA rider to challenge for a podium place.
