Cheetahs head coach Naka Drotske on Wednesday announced his squad to take on the Lions in a Super Rugby clash in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Cheetahs will welcome back their regular captain Francois Uys in one of three changes to the side who were mauled 45-24 by the Highlanders in the Free State Stadium last weekend.

Uys was ruled out at the eleventh hour last weekend when he failed to recover from flu, with centre Francois Venter acting as interim captain and Steven Sykes moving into the No 5 lock position.

The other two changes has come in the backline with wingers Raymond Rhule and Cornal Hendricks replacing Sergeal Petersen and Rayno Benjamin respectively.

Petersen was probably unlucky to lose his spot in the squad altogether after he played a significant role in the first try by Hendricks last weekend which saw the Cheetahs scoring a quick 21 unanswered points after they were down 38-3 with three-quarters of the game gone.

With fullback Willie le Roux (ankle), prop Coenie Oosthuizen (back) and flank Oupa Mohoje (AC) still out injured the Cheetahs are still without three Boks while lock Lood de Jager (ankle) might only be back for the penultimate game against the Waratahs which will be the last home game of the season in a fortnight.

Cheetahs: Clayton Blommetjies, Cornal Hendricks, Francois Venter, Michael van der Spuy, Raymond Rhule, Francois Brummer, Tian Meyer, Willie Britz, Boom Prinsloo, Tienie Burger, Francois Uys (capt), Carl Wegner, Maks van Dyk, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Danie Minnie

Bench: Stephan Coetzee, BG Uys, Ewald van der Westhuizen, Steven Sykes, Carel Greeff, Shaun Venter, Coenie van Wyk, Rayno Benjamin.
