Sharks’ front row eye starting berth

As the Sharks embark on their final bout of rotation against the Lions at Ellis Park tomorrow night, one group of men go into this game with the objective of being there again next week – as the first-choice quartet.

The front row of Dale Chadwick, Kyle Cooper, left, and Wiehahn Herbst impressed with a fine display in the previous round and have been afforded another opportunity this weekend in a game that team management has labelled a platform for staking a claim for a “first-choice XV” for the business end of the Currie Cup.

“We went well last weekend,” said hooker Cooper. “Wiehahn anchored and controlled our scrums and it’s good having Dale back.

“There’s a lot of confidence from the tight five going into this game but we need to move on and replicate such a showing.”

A new face is second rower Stephan Lewies, who gets elevated from the Under-21s and has caught the eye with his lanky nimbleness.

Following his return from Griquas, Justin Downey also gets a starting berth.
