Sharks coach Brad Macleod-Henderson yesterday downplayed the possible heavy loss of Springbok duo prop Jannie du Plessis, above, and flank Jean Deysel for the Currie Cup final at Newlands this weekend.

Facing a final fitness test yesterday, Du Plessis (hand) and Deysel (hamstring) were both due for further assessment, with Wiehahn Herbst in line to replace Du Plessis, while Deysel, who could start on the bench, would be replaced by Jacques Botes if ruled unfit.

In what might also be a shrewd tactical ploy, the final decision could even be pushed out to Saturday, but they kept everyone guessing yesterday in delaying their final team announcement.

“We delayed the injury update … and will select our team based on that (medical) information,” Macleod-Henderson explained.

“It’s always a big blow to lose quality players like Jannie and Jean, but Wiehahn and Jacques did very well for us last Saturday,” he added.

Bolstered by the definite return of the “Bone Collector”, flank Willem Alberts (neck), prop Beast Mtawarira (leg) and by having hooker Bismarck du Plessis available, the Sharks have an awesome look about them.

“Fantastic news to have Bismarck back, we were very relieved to hear it,” said MacLeod-Henderson.

“The final is the end of a season, everyone is really excited about the final and hopefully, if things go our way, we will get the result.

“That will be a fairy-tale end to the season,” MacLeod-Henderson enthused.
