EXCITING young Cheetahs and Springbok scrumhalf Piet van Zyl’s decision to join the Bulls family was yesterday music in the ears of coach Frans Ludeke.

Van Zyl, just 23, who will only join them after the Currie Cup, was one of the new players awarded a Springbok cap this year by Bok coach Heyneke Meyer and will fill the gap left by the departed Jano Vermaak.

Born in Pretoria, but a product of Grey College, Van Zyl earned his first international cap against Scotland in Nelspruit last month, while making his Cheetahs Super debut last year ironically against the Bulls.

“Piet is an exciting youngster who brings a lot of energy and commitment to the field,” said Bulls boss Ludeke.

“His style of play will suit us and I am convinced that he will blossom in our playing style and structure. We have lost one Springbok in Jano, so to replace him by another in Piet is fantastic for our depth,” Ludeke said.

Blue Bulls High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg confirmed the deal.

“Piet will still play for the Free State in the Currie Cup, but will join us on November 1st on a two year deal till October 31, 2015. We are very pleased to secure his services as he is one of the most promising and exciting young halfbacks in the country.”

*In other news the Blue Bulls Company and Bulls management said yesterday they would like to thank their eight outgoing Boks for their services.

They will not play in the Currie Cup competition, but will join their new clubs abroad.
