Rain fails to dilute league race

Wet weather might have handed draws to all the teams participating in the Gauteng Cricket Board’s Premier League A Division at the weekend, but there are still some exciting fixtures lined up before the festive season break.

Chief among them is the University of Johannesburg’s clash against Wanderers this weekend.┬áThe Students lead the pack after four games without a loss and will be looking to extend their great run.

UJ’s stellar form comes as no surprise as the team vowed at the end of last season that they would pick up momentum in the early stages of their new campaign.

Seasoned campaigners Grustin Lee and Farina Rob have silenced their critics, pushing UJ to their lofty position with their superb bowling.

But Wanderers are no pushovers, especially in their own backyard. Wanderers are third only because they have played one game less than UJ. There is no question about the team’s ability to outmanoeuvre their opponents on any given day and this game will be a true test of the team’s character and depth.

Wanderers pride themselves in the composition of their young, eager and talented side, all looking to make a lasting impression in the team’s starting line-up.

Wanderers have already swept aside the likes of S&E Delfos and Soweto this season and the remaining teams will have to prepare thoroughly not to suffer the same fate.

In other games, Old Edwardians take on Delfos at the Allan Lawson Oval, Alberton will battle it out with Pirates Cricket Club, the struggling Sowetans will take on newly-promoted Marks Park at the Soweto Cricket Oval, while Jeppe welcome Lenasia at Quondam Park.

All the games start at 10am.
