CSA to await BCCI decision

Cricket South Africa (CSA) and its stakeholders will be on tenterhooks this weekend as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) holds an annual general meeting tomorrow that will determine the fate of India’s series in South Africa.

To date, there’s no clarity on whether the tour will even take place, let alone its itinerary.

CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat earlier this month met with BCCI secretary Sanay Patel to thrash out differences and attempted to identify the root of the BCCI’s animosity towards him but came back only with confirmation that no decision on the venture would be taken until this weekend’s AGM.

Another popular assertion is that the whole impasse is merely rooted in personal politics.

Self-exiled BCCI president Narayanawami Srinivasan told CSA earlier in the year that the BCCI would be opposed to Lorgat’s appointment and that the tour would be at risk in such as case yet while CSA, laudably, didn’t allow external parties to influence the process, it’s understood that they did miscalculate Srinivasan’s political future.
